Today was a very exciting day for Ben Davis, my counter part in the game development world. He’s been working hard to get his first published game title off the ground, and today at about 3:45 PM EST, his dreams finally came true.
“Core Diver”, Familiaris Games’ first title, passed its “Judgement” period on Newgrounds, and is now open to the public for play. The ratings aren’t off the charts, but they’re rising, above average, and the reviews so far are very positive.
The game is set where you might expect it. You’re a diver that is on a free fall towards the center of the earth. Along the way you’ll pick up gems, and power ups, which will help you expand the closing walls, slow you down, shrink you, or speed you up. You’ll also need to avoid random ledges of all different lengths.
The main object is to get as far down the cave as you can. The game boasts a score and a distance you’ve travelled. There are even some gem and power ups placed in places designed to lure you to your doom. Its all part of the challenge and fun.
Another element to the game is submittable scores, historic leaderboard, and achievements. You can play “Core Diver” right here. Prepare yourself for a fun ride and the determination to get deeper over and over again. Personally I couldn’t stop playing the first time I experienced it.
It’s tough to put a number rating on this game. Its fun, addictive, and has a lot of replay value. If I was pressed for a star rating, I’d give it five stars. It’s a fitting first title of any game studio. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
