jQuery 2.0 – Leaving IE 6-8 behind

I thought I should follow up my last fun/rant post with the jQuery 2.0 announcement release.

http://blog.jquery.com/2013/04/18/jquery-2-0-released/

The main highlight to me is the exclusion of Internet Explorer 6-8 support. It was a smart move on their part. jQuery 1.x is still readily available. To me its a good push for the world to leave the old, dying browsers behind, and finally propel everything into the modern web.

I know most of us won’t be able to 100% enjoy this, but its a glimmer of hope that the future is closer than we think. Well done, jQuery.

Now as we inch closer to the next generation of consoles, it almost feels like Microsoft could lose the next ground of console wars.

The truth is, they already have.

MySQL’s CASE Statement

I was recently tasked with creating the base SQL queries for a new reporting system at work. When exploring the database, I discovered a lot of numbers, and saw the need for a lot of totaling. While I found some of it best suited for PHP to handle, the core still needed to be handled by SQL. This is when I turned to MySQL’s CASE statement.
